What's the difference between WASC & the USA Swimming I'm seeing mentioned on the site?
- USA swimming is the national organization of which WASC is a member club. USA Swimming is the governing body of swimming in the United States, providing rules, sanctioned meets, safety and insurance and guidelines under which WASC operates. WASC is the local club in the Middle Atlantic Region of USA Swimming.
- ,What are the costs of being a part of WASC?
- USA Swimming fees. $90 year for premium membership which allow attendance at practices and meets from Sept 1, 2025 through Dec 31, 2026. There is also a flex membership for 12 and under swimmers which includes all practices and up to 2 meets during the year which is $35.
- Registration fee. This year we have added a registration fee for WASC which includes the website administration fee, a team t-shirt and silicon team swim cap. The fee will be $25 for each swimmer.
- Monthly fee. Monthly dues are based on which practice group the swimmer is in. Bronze is $50/month and has 2 practices a week, Silver is $60/month with 3 practices a week, and Gold is $80/month with 4 practices a week.
- Required costs. Team suits, meets, etc. Swimmers will need to have a competition swimsuit, goggles, and other equipment based on their practice group which the coach will specify at the beginning of the season. Meets are optional. We plan to attend one per month from Oct - Feb and also Championships in March. Meet fees are typically $10 per event entered (Champs is $15), and there is usually a spectator fee of $5 per session.
-
What does the schedule look like?
- Practice location & times. All practices are held at the Williamsport Area High School Natatorium. Bronze is 6-7pm Tues and Thurs, Silver is 6-7pm Tues, Wed and Thurs; and Gold is M, Tues, W, Thurs from 5:30-7pm.
- What happens if miss practice. There are no penalties for missing practices. Of course, regular attendance will help the swimmer get the most of the program.
- Commitment to a certain number of meets. There is no commitment to attend any meets, but there is encouragement to do so.
- Time commitment per week. Depends on swim level and number of practices per week.
-
Do we need to volunteer? There are opportunities for parents to volunteer, but no requirements to do so at this time.
- What is the parents' level of commitment? Parents are responsible for their swimmer until they come on deck 5 minutes before practice time and at meets before and after entering/leaving the pool deck.
-
What am I supposed to do while my child is swimming?
- There are bleachers for viewing within the pool area. Heads up it does get warm up there! Side note: the viewing area is up steep stairs and not super child friendly for those with younger kiddos.
